Booking

  • How far ahead can I book?

Twelve weeks. The diary opens on the first Wednesday of each month at 10am. If the date you want is gone, join the waiting list on that date — tables come back most weeks, usually the evening before.

  • Do you hold tables for walk-ins?

The eight seats at the fire counter are kept for walk-ins after 8pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Come to the door rather than calling; whoever is on the pass will tell you honestly how long it will be.

  • What happens if I am late?

We hold your table for fifteen minutes, then we may need to give it away. Ring us — the number is on the contact page — and we will do everything we can, particularly if you are on the tasting menu.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel or change up to 48 hours ahead with no charge, from the link in your confirmation email. Inside 48 hours we charge £45 per guest on tasting menu tables, because the food has already been bought.

  • Can I book for more than ten people?

Not through the website. Parties of eleven or more go into one of the private rooms, which is handled by our events team — the enquiry form is on the private dining page and is answered the same day.

Eating with us

  • Do I have to take the tasting menu?

No. The à la carte is served every service the restaurant is open except Sunday, in the main room and on the mezzanine. Saturday dinner is tasting-menu only, because the kitchen cannot do both well on a full Saturday.

  • Can you cook for allergies and intolerances?

Yes, and we would much rather know when you book than when you sit down. The tasting menu is bought and prepped a day ahead, so late notice means a worse dinner for you, not a harder night for us.

  • Is there a plant-based tasting menu?

There is, with the same number of courses and the same amount of thought. It is not the normal menu with things removed. Tell us when you book.

  • How long will dinner take?

Three hours for the tasting menu, about two for the à la carte, and one long sitting on Sunday. We do not turn tables twice on a Friday or Saturday evening.

  • Are children welcome?

Very much so on Sundays, where under-twelves eat at half price. In the evening we would suggest the à la carte rather than the tasting menu, and we do not have high chairs at the fire counter.

Getting here

  • Is there parking?

Fourteen spaces on the quay, free, first come. On a high spring tide the far end of the car park floods — we will mention it in your confirmation email if your date is one of those.

  • Is the building accessible?

The main room, the bar and the accessible WC are step-free from the quay. There is a lift to the first floor. The Kiln Room has two steps and a portable ramp; the fire counter is reached by a staircase and cannot be made step-free. Tell us what you need when you book and we will put you in the right room.

  • What should I wear?

Whatever you like. It is a converted granary by a tidal channel and it can be draughty in January, which is the only advice we would offer.

  • Can I bring my dog?

Assistance dogs anywhere, always. Other dogs are welcome in the bar and at the outside tables, not in the main room.

Still stuck?

Write to hello@emberfen.example or ring 020 7946 0142. Somebody who works in the restaurant will answer.

A table is the whole point.

Twelve weeks of diary, four ways to eat, and a kitchen that would rather know about your allergies now than on the night.
